Close a Ramp Checking Account

Overview

Users who can manage Banking accounts can close a Ramp Checking Account from Banking after the account balance is fully withdrawn and any account dependencies are removed. Ramp Checking Account was previously called Ramp Business Account. If Ramp still uses the account for payments, interest, cashback deposits, or investment transfers, you must move those workflows first or choose a replacement account during closure. Most accounts can be closed in-app, but the last account or an account tied to 1-day card terms may still require Support.

Prepare to close your Ramp Checking Account

Complete this checklist before you try to close the account:

If you are leaving Ramp completely, also finish the rest of your offboarding work before you close your last Ramp Checking Account. Most businesses need to pay outstanding card balances from Statements & payments, redeem any remaining cashback from Rewards, and withdraw any remaining Banking balances first.

Close your Ramp Checking Account

Once the account is ready to close:

  1. Open Banking.
  2. In Accounts, select the Ramp Checking Account you want to close.
  3. Open the account menu in the top-right corner, then select Close account.
  4. If Ramp says the account is used to make payments or receive interest, choose a Replacement account and continue.
  5. Review the warning, then select Close account to confirm.

Ramp shows this warning before the final confirmation: "This action cannot be undone. Your statements will still be available in the documents tab."

Troubleshoot Ramp Checking Account closure blockers

If Ramp does not let you close the account, the close window lists the blocker directly. Use the message you see to choose the next step:

If you see You cannot close this account because it is your last account, make sure your business has another payment source available, such as a linked external bank account, for any remaining Ramp payments. If Ramp still blocks closure after you remove dependencies, contact Ramp Support.

If you see You’re on 1-day card terms, the account is currently powering your card spend and cannot be closed in-app. If you need to fully offboard from Ramp in that state, contact Ramp Support.

If you see an unknown error and Ramp does not list a clear next step, contact Ramp Support.

Close an accidentally created Ramp Checking Account

If you opened the account while redeeming cashback and do not want to keep it, you can usually close it right away after you move the cashback back out of the account.

  1. Open Move money and transfer the full balance to a linked external bank account.
  2. Wait for any transfer hold or pending movement to clear.
  3. Return to Banking, open the account, and select Close account.

If cashback is still set to deposit into that account, update the destination in Rewards before you try again.

Access statements after you close the account

After you close a Ramp Checking Account, Ramp says the account statements stay available in Banking Documents. If you are only closing one account and keeping Ramp active, you should still be able to download historical statements there.

If you plan to close your entire Ramp account, download any statements, confirmations, and tax documents you need before you finish offboarding. That is the safest way to keep your records available after you leave Ramp.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to small residual balances?

The account cannot close until the balance is exactly $0.00. If you still see a few cents in the account, refresh the balance and transfer out the remaining amount before retrying.

What happens to interest when I close the account?

If Ramp says the account is used to receive interest, the close flow prompts you to choose a replacement account before you can continue.

Do I need to close my investment account first?

Yes. Ramp blocks Ramp Checking Account closure when there is an open linked Ramp Investment Account. Move the investment balance back to your Ramp Checking Account, close the investment account, and then retry closing the Ramp Checking Account.

Can I close my last Ramp Checking Account in-app?

Sometimes no. If Ramp shows a last-account error after you remove balances and payment dependencies, you need Ramp Support to help complete the offboarding flow.
